Backup Roll Lifters

Backup Roll Handling is one of the most demanding applications in the rolling mill. The sheer size and weight of these units presents a challenge for any crane operator. Bradley has developed many custom approaches to handling the Backup Rolls, each as unique as the designs of the Mills that they work in. From automatic mechanical lifters, to fully motorized grabs, chances are we’ve got a design to suit your needs.

Chock Lifters

Chock Lifters

In the Roll Shop, handling of the Roll Chocks is often cumbersome once removed from the work roll set. Bradley has many options to improve safety and efficiency of handling these components. Contact a Bradley Engineer to discuss your lifting application.

Bearing Lifters

Just like the chocks themselves, Bearings are also difficult to handle components of work roll sets. Often handled in the axis-vertical (eye-to-the-sky) orientation, Bradley has many dedicated devices to help make lifting of these components a much safer process. Asked & Answered

Q: Are your lifters suited to handling roll stacks? Or just individual rolls?
A: Both. We have custom solutions to handle roll stacks, to supply the mill aisle for roll changes, and for single rolls when building or taking down roll stacks. We have equipment for handling the built up roll or the bare roll, if necessary.

Q: Do you provide lifters suited for Roll Grinding/Roll Shop applications?
A: Yes. From simple lifting beams to fully motorized grabs, we have solutions to help handle rolls on and off of the grinders and to and from the storage racks.

Q: Our backup roll chocks vary from the roughing to the finishing stands, can your lifters handle both?
A: Most likely, yes. Our applications engineers will study your supplied roll and chock drawings to help determine the most flexible solution for your mill. Solutions can be simple mechanical units, or complex motorized devices.
