Vertical Axis Coil Tongs
A Single Rim Coil Tong grips between the outside and inside diameters (the “rim”) of the coil using a single set of jaws. The Single Rim lifter is more tolerant of uneven or “telescoped” coils as compared to a magnet. The Single Rim Coil Tong depends purely on friction for the lift. Therefore it is very important to clearly identify the characteristics of the coil surface to be lifted: material, temperature, dry / wet (lubricant), finish, etc. For coils used in surface critical applications, Bradley Lifting can provide a Double Rim Coil Tong. The Double Rim design uses two sets of jaws to grip the coil at two separate rim locations. The result is the clamping force is halved within each set of jaws versus a Single Rim design. Just like the Single Rim Coil Tong, the lift depends purely on friction. Therefore it is very important to clearly identify the characteristics of the coil surface to be lifted: material, temperature, dry / wet (lubricant), finish, etc. Bradley Lifting can provide a variety of materials and surface finishes for the grip jaws, depending on the application requirements. All below-the-hook lifting equipment from Bradley Lifting is designed and manufactured in conformance with the ASME B30.20 standard.
